Mitsubishi Regional Jet on pahasti myöhässä mutta valmistaja on luottavainen koneen menestykseen. Ensilennon oli määrä tapahtua jo vuonna 2012. Nykyisen suunnitelman mukaan ensilento tapahtuu vuonna 2015 ja ensimmäinen kone toimitetaan All Nippon Airwaysille vuonna 2017.
Uusien 70-90 paikkaisten MRJ90 ja MRJ70 -koneiden luvataan parantavan polttoainetehokkuutta, vähentävän päästöjä sekä melua. MRJ on ensimmäinen konetyyppi, joka on suunniteltu ja koottu Japanissa sitten 1960-luvun.
Uudella PurePower -moottoriperheellä on takanaan yli 9000 tuntia erilaisia kokeita, jotka varmistavat moottorin suorituskyvyn ja luotettavuuden. Moottorin eri versioita tullaan asentamaan Airbus A320neo, Bombardier CSeries, Mitsubishi Regional Jet ja Irkut MS-21 -koneisiin.
